I. Introductions
New workgroup participants-Cassie Alley, Joel Rash and Gene Pierce made their introductions. Tuscola Technical Center instructors Cindy Olsen and Cec Kapcia also joined the call as guests of Gene Pierce.
II. Template or framework for Best Practices for Learning Community website
The template will be evaluated to determine how it can be used to assess programs in the WIRED region. Cassie will provide the survey form that the other Learning Communities are using to gather information. She will also help us develop the webpage.
Prior to teleconference, Cassie forwarded website address to workgroup members: www.midmichiganlearningcommunities.pbwiki.com.
Workgroup members briefly reviewed the Mid Michigan Innovation Team Learning Communities Promising Practices questionnaire currently
being used by MMIT.
Erica forwarded the website link for Personal Finance Best Practice Standards from the National Jumpstart Coalition to workgroup members during teleconference: www.jumpstart.org/bp.cfm
III. Goals
Toni stressed the need to identify the “how” of goal areas as to:
Identify and communicate information concerning exiting funds that could be leveraged to support youth entrepreneurship; and
Develop a strategy to communicate activities and resources and a system for collaboration
IV. Next Steps/Closing Comments
-Cassie Alley has agreed to develop website template to include Youth Entrepreneurship Learning Community Workgroup information and will forward template to Erica.
-Toni will work off-line with 2 to 3 workgroup individuals to discuss recommendations for Promising Practices received from workgroup
members. A progress report of their discussion will be presented to workgroup at the March 14th Entrepreneurship Learning
Community Meeting in Flint.
-Toni will investigate best practices of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) with Charles Burke of CMU.
-Doug suggested that in addition to review of resources in the WIRED region we also review those outside of the region.
-Each workgroup member will investigate and report findings of resources to be used for youth entrepreneurship.
Next Meeting: March 14, 2008 @ 9:00 am-11:30 am, Genesys Conf. Center, Flint, MI. This meeting will be structured as a working meeting in which each learning community workgroup will report out.
