Michigan Entrepreneurship Education Network (MEEN)
The Michigan Entrepreneurship Education Network (MEEN) has just released a new report - titled "Profiles of Michigan Entrepreneurship Education Programs, 2008" - that I thought would be of interest to you. The Report offers a current and comprehensive picture of entrepreneurship education at the postsecondary level in Michigan, including educational institutional partnerships with organizations that enhance entrepreneurial learning. The Report offers a highly dynamic picture of Michigan's entrepreneurship education, and one that is aligning more closely to our current economic realities.
As we all know, entrepreneurial enterprises - often characterized by high growth and innovation in 21st century technologies, and operating across all economic sectors - hold great promise for moving Michigan forward. Such enterprises are the foundation of economic success; the entire net job growth in the United States during 1980-2001 was contributed by firms under five years old.
While formal education in general is at least modestly correlated with entrepreneurial activity, the highest levels of entrepreneurship are achieved by individuals with formal Entrepreneurship coursework and skill development.
Our intent is to provide a starting place for further conversations and planning to catalyze Michigan's entrepreneurial economy by informing institutional, community, and state-level program development and policy discussions related to supporting entrepreneurship education.
Please feel free to contact me with your feedback and thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you.
