    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the MMIT?

A:  The MMIT is the Mid-Michigan Innovation Team.  MMIT, funded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s "Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development" (WIRED) initiative, is a network of people, projects and partners reinventing mid-Michigan’s economy.  The MMIT goal is to transform our region by fostering innovation, talent and collaboration.  The Learning Communities are separately funded by a grant from the C. S. Mott Foundation, and are an integral part of the innovative MMIT - WIRED implementation plan.  The Prima Civitas Foundation is reponsible for facilitating the overall intent of the WIRED grant.

Q:  What will the MMIT Learning Communities do?

A:  The Learning Communities will meet approximately once per month, convened by an industry Champion (including Norma Hagenow, Chief Learning Officer and former CEO, Genesys; Kathy Conklin, Executive Director, Saginaw County Business and Education Partnership; and Karen Bantel, Executive Director, Michigan Entrepreneurship Education Network.) Each sector-based Learning Community will evolve to meet the needs identified and targeted by participants, offering a venue for collaboration, innovation acceleration, and project enhancement.

Q:  Why should I get involved in a MMIT Learning Community?

A:  As a participant, you will gain knowledge of current efforts to adapt and innovate in Mid-Michigan, connect with others in your industry through these growing networks, and become a change agent for your industry.  By learning about and joining successful approaches to transform our economy, you will better position your business and region for growth.  In other words – you’ll be at the very forefront of Mid-Michigan’s economic transformation.

Q:  How can I get involved in the MMIT Learning Communities?

A:  Please attend our next meeting (see the green box on the home page of this site for more information.)  You can also contact Holly Parker, MMIT Learning Communities Coordinator, at c.alley@primacivitas.org or 517-999-3382 ext 307 for more information or to be added to our mailing list.

Q:  What is the MMIT "Mid-Michigan region" as defined by the Department of Labor WIRED grant?

A:  The MMIT region includes 13 counties anchored by Flint, Lansing, Midland, Saginaw and the Thumb area - encompassing over two million people.  The 13 counties in the MMIT region are Bay, Clinton, Eaton, Genesee, Ingham, Huron, Lapeer, Livingston, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawasee, and Tuscola.
