Follow-up Information from Lisa Katz, Senior Policy Associate, Corporation for a Skilled Workforce,  248-762-4596, lkatz@skilledwork.org :

Summary descriptions of some of the creative initiatives CSW is helping Southern Arizona undertake, including development of modular entrepreneurship curriculum that can but does not have to result in a degree (just-in-time curriculum); integration of a business plan competition into high school science fairs; and K-8(12) professional development for teachers with an emphasis on STEM and entrepreneurship.  AZ entrepreneurship action items.doc 1.doc

Draft language and proposal developed for a Mid Michigan regional business plan competition.  This was for a full-scale, top-of-line competition, as reflected in the proposal.  Assumptions could be adjusted to hold a more moderate-cost initiative.  We did reach out to Great Lakes Entrepreneurs Quest as a partner.  They offer some valuable services and infrastructure that could aide success, but we did not ask them to fully manage the competition because we wanted more flexibility in the concept.  There are some excellent resource links in the provided attachment, including a link to dozens of competition examples/websites and a link to the McGuire's annual showcase and business plan competition final.  (Our concept would have encouraged institutional-based competitions and culminated in a regional "final." We also had categories for students and non-students.) business plan competition.doc 2.doc

The CEEPs report comes from U of M and looks at a range of recommendations to improve the institution's entrepreneurial endeavors, with a special look at engineering. Check out the table on the last two pages--it has a great comparison of U of M policies relating to entrepreneurship compared to Stanford.  An interesting bar to set. CEEPS_FINAL.pdf 3.pdf

I also have added the vision and action plan for the Council for Labor and Economic Growth's Committee on Creating a State Culture for Entrepreneurship.  The accompanying priority check list gives a hint at where the committee's draft recommendations are heading.  These are still under refinement.  vision and action plan 9-12-07.doc 4.doc

Below are links to some of the very interesting programs and approaches Arizona State University is taking with regard to integrating entrepreneurship curriculum across its campus and a university center specifically designed to assist student entrepreneurs.

Below are some business plan models developed for Arizona middle and high schools.  I think they are quite straightforward.  Also, included is a benchmarks document for opportunities when students have a little longer to spend with their plan.
